1st meditation: made in the image of God

readings

And when Jesus had been baptised, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.
MATTHEW 3:16, 17

So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them….God saw everything that he had made, and indeed, it was very good.
GENESIS 2: 27, 31

moment of thought

before Jesus went into the wilderness, he was baptised and the developing knowledge of who he was, the Son of God, was at its height.

the focus of our first meditation is firstly to be amazed at the event of the incarnation - of Jesus, the Son, becoming human and being among us and secondly to recognise that this Jesus, whose own relationship with his Father was a living developing relationship, walks with us in our own developing knowledge of who we are in Christ. we are beloved children, children who are heirs together with Christ. All that Christ has, he gives to us.

“We are not the sum of our weaknesses and failures; we are the sum of the Father's love for us and our real capacity to become the image of his Son” JOHN PAUL II

prayer

Father of all creation,
Father of the Son,
Giver of all gifts,
Maker of all things,
draw me,
re-birth me,
send me,
complete me
