the F word

the F word is a word that I use very sparingly. whether it's to use it to say something about myself or to describe someone else. the trouble is that the F word can be wholly misunderstood.

I would think, for example that if I was to tell you that my tutor was a F..... you wouldn't view him in the same way again - you probably wouldn't view me in the same way either.

that's the problem with Feminism isn't it, the conversation is almost done before we're started.

I would like to suggest that true Feminism is actually a God-centred humanism.

Feminism is not the exaltation of the feminine above the masculine; it is the movement for the affirmation and implementation of the wholeness of being of the female, which has been damaged and left for dead in the wake of Patriarchy, and it is more than this; it is only through this implementation of the wholeness of being of the female that the wholeness of being of the male can fully be expressed. We are ‘one flesh’ and as such the one is defined by the other; there is no male without female, there is no female without male.

It is nonsense to explain what it means to be male without the distinctive of the female and it is nonsense to explain what it means to be female without the distinctive of the male. Our wholeness rests in who we are in relation to the ‘other’, our distinctiveness rests in there being another distinct from us.

To make the point more deeply, this is wholly found in the being of God, whose being is defined by relationship and whose ‘God-ness’ is by no means undermined by the distinctive nature of each Person of the Godhead.

so, next time you hear the F word, try not to swear......
